Is there an English Version of JUWEL?

top

There is an English and a German Version of JUWEL. JUWEL opens with an English interface, if the default language in the web browser is English. The language settings can be changed by configuring the browser:

MICROSOFT Internet Explorer

Tools -> Internet Options -> General

The language settings can be found under History. Click on Languages to open the Language Preferences window. Select English and click on the Move up button to move it as the highlighted language to the top.

MOZILLA Firefox

Tools -> Options -> Advanced

Click on Languages, select English and then move it as the highlighted language to the top.

With both browsers, the setting is immediately active and after refreshing the page, JUWEL will be displayed in the selected language.

about What is this service?

top

Members of Research Centre Jülich can make their publications accessible to the interested public on the Jülich full-text server by publishing their work a second time. This requires the consent of the first publisher. The full-text server enables the better distribution of publications from Jülich even if the journal in question has not been subscribed to or no PhD theses are available etc. The costs of the server will be borne by the Central Library. The use of the full-text server is free of charge for both authors and readers.

dspace What is DSpace?

top

JUWEL is based on the open source software DSpace. Details of DSpace can be found on the DSpace Homepage and on DSpace Wiki.

submitters Who is allowed to upload documents?

top

All documents require that at least one author is a member of Research Centre Jülich and that work for the publication has been done at the Research Centre. After registration, you must provide some information on your document. Afterwards, you can directly upload your work. In all other respects, the Publication Guidelines of Research Centre Jülich remain unaffected.

The server provides so-called "collections" and each collection corresponds to a department or an institute of Research Centre Jülich. The publications are assigned to the collection of the corresponding institute. Publications written in cooperation with different institutes will be listed under each institute. The Central Library is responsible for the administration.

formats File formats

top

In principle, the server can use all file types. Documents in PDF format should be saved on the server irrespective of the original format. Conversion is possible, for example, with the freeware Ghostword or can be carried out by the Central Library. The Central Library reserves the right for the future to convert the documents according to technical progress. How do you find documents on the full-text server? Apart from the search for author, title and date of publication, it is also possible to browse the holdings of the individual institutes. The server will be registered for metasearch engines (harvesters) such as OAIster and ARC. Through the internationally used interface OAI-PMH, documents at Jülich can be found without searching the full-text server of Research Centre Jülich beforehand.

advantages What benefits does electronic publishing provide?

top
  • easy distribution and accessibility
  • fast and long-term availability
  • references are accessible worldwide

costs What costs must be borne by the authors?

top

The upload of documents in this repository is free of charge for members of Research Centre Jülich.

costs What legal aspects have to be considered?

top

Authors often sign over all utilisation rights to the publisher when publishing their work. In this case, the document can only be published on the full-text server with the consent of the publisher. It would be better, if the author's contract contained a clause according to the recommendation of the Central Library and the Legal Department. In the meantime, many publishing houses generally grant self-archiving rights. An overall view is provided by the Sherpa/RoMEO Project. There may be certain obligations such as including a link to the publisher's website. If only preprint publications are allowed, please use the last version of your own manuscript. If publishing houses allow post-print publications and the journal is licensed at the Central Library, you can also use the publisher's full-text. In any case, the person who publishes the document is responsible for the legality of the publication on the full-text server and not the Central Library.

Preservation How long do the documents remain on the server?

top

The original documents are always preserved. However, it may be necessary due to technical changes to migrate documents to preserve the contents on a long-term basis.
